Hey everyone!

Just a quick update from me, and a thank you for sticking around.

I’ve just started my third year at university, and it’s the big one. This is the year I have to properly nail down my individual project, alongside all my other modules and deadlines. It’s something I’m really excited about. The project is all about sound in games, and it will be a playtest study on a game I’ll be building myself for the module. It’s going to take a lot of my time and focus, but it’s right in the middle of everything I love about games user research.

What that means for Kirbylife is that things are going to slow down again. From now on I’m aiming to put out a review roughly every three weeks. If I find more time to focus on the site properly, I’ll happily post more often, but I’d rather be honest about what’s realistic than promise a schedule I can’t keep.

I do have a very short stack of pre-written reviews ready to schedule out, so there will definitely be reviews coming. The catch is that they won’t be as new or up to date as I’d like, and I’ll be falling behind the curve on the latest releases for a while. Please bear with me on that. I’d rather share something I’ve put real care into than rush out a quick take on whatever just launched.

The good news is that if all goes well, I’d love to share the project and the playtest findings here on Kirbylife once it’s finished, so keep an eye out for that.

I know I’ve said it before, but thank you, genuinely. Every read, comment, like and share makes a difference, and I really appreciate everyone being so understanding while I balance all of this.

I’ll still be around reading your replies and jumping into conversations when I can. Keep playing, keep critiquing, and keep sharing what you love (and what frustrates you) about games.

Talk soon,
Max Kirby (Kirbylife) 💙
